When the Yard's Most Feared Inmate Tried to Break Me, My Secret Silenced Him
Standing Ground in the Devil's Yard
The heat radiating off the sun-bleached concrete of Blackwood Penitentiary was suffocating. High above, the barbed-wire fences cut into the harsh blue sky, while guards in watchtowers kept their rifles lazily pointed at the yard. In the center of this concrete desert, a tense circle of inmates in bright orange jumpsuits had formed. They were silent, holding their breath, waiting for the inevitable violence. At the center of the circle stood Clara, slender and composed in her white tank top and orange prison trousers, her brown hair pulled into a messy bun. Towering over her was Silas, the undisputed king of Block C.
Silas was a colossal, heavily tattooed man whose very presence commanded terror. His slicked-back brown hair and thick beard glistened with sweat as he stared down at the newcomer. To Silas, Clara was nothing more than a fragile leaf caught in a storm. He smiled mockingly, his eyes scanning her quiet face for any sign of fear. Finding none, his grin widened into a cruel sneer.

"Well, show us what you're capable of," Silas mocked, his deep voice echoing off the concrete walls.
The crowd of inmates chuckled, expecting Clara to beg or step back. Instead, she did neither. She slowly tilted her head up, her eyes locking onto his with an icy, unyielding defiance. Irritated by her lack of submission, Silas decided to put on a show. He flexed his massive, scarred arms and let out a terrifying, guttural roar that rattled the chain-link fences. The crowd erupted into wild cheers, urging him to crush her. Yet, when the roar died down, Clara remained standing completely unfazed, her posture relaxed, her gaze steady. She had not flinched a single inch.
