A Manager Mocked a Poor Woman's Broken Watch, Unaware She Was the Founder's Wife
The soft glow of crystal chandeliers did nothing to warm the atmosphere inside Vance & Co. Fine Timepieces. Liam, a young clerk wearing a dark navy vest, was carefully polishing a glass showcase when the heavy glass doors slid open. An elderly woman in a faded coat, navigating a manual wheelchair, rolled into the pristine showroom. Her name was Clara, and her presence immediately drew a sharp, disapproving glare from Sarah, the boutique's strict store manager.
Sarah, dressed in a sharp black business suit, marched over to Liam and hissed under her breath. "Get security to escort her out. She doesn't belong here, and she's ruining the aesthetic of our showroom." But Liam couldn't find it in his heart to turn away someone who looked so fragile. He approached Clara with a polite smile, asking how he could assist her.

With trembling hands, Clara reached into her pocket and produced a dusty, heavily scratched vintage watch, gently placing it onto the glass showcase. Before Liam could inspect it, Sarah stepped forward, her face twisted in disgust. "We don't repair trash here," she sneered, her voice echoing in the quiet boutique. "Please take your junk and leave."
Ignoring his manager's harsh words, Liam picked up the watch and grabbed a microfiber cloth. He gently wiped away years of grime, revealing the faint glimmer of gold underneath. He carefully fastened the watch back onto Clara's wrist. "To her, it matters," Liam said softly but firmly.
Sarah leaned in, her eyes flashing with anger.
"You're going to lose your job over this, Liam," she whispered. But Clara simply reached into her coat and pulled out an old paper envelope containing a vintage black-and-white photo. "My husband wore it here," Clara murmured, holding it up.
Liam looked from the photograph to the massive oil portrait of the store's founder hanging on the main wall. The resemblance was undeniable. "Is he the founder?" Liam gasped. Clara looked up, her expression serene but powerful.
"And I am his wife," she said, leaving them in absolute silence.
