My Husband Died Years Ago, but My Daughter Just Spotted Him on the Beach
The sun beat down on the sparkling turquoise waters of the Oregon coast, casting a brilliant glare over the white sand. Clara stood near the shoreline, the cool sea breeze rustling her white cotton cover-up. She adjusted her dark purple swimsuit, trying to find a moment of peace, but her heart remained heavy. It had been five long years since her husband, Mark, had vanished in a tragic boating accident. Every wave that crashed against the shore felt like a reminder of the life they had lost.
Beside her, their six-year-old daughter, Lily, giggled as she chased the receding tide in her bright turquoise swimsuit. Lily had been just a baby when Mark disappeared, knowing her father only through photographs and the stories Clara lovingly shared.

Suddenly, Lily stopped running. She stood frozen, staring intently at a tall, muscular man wading out of the deep surf. He shook the saltwater from his thick, wavy hair, his face obscured by the bright glare of the sun.
"Mom, look, it's dad!" Lily exclaimed, pointing a tiny finger at the stranger.
Clara’s heart seized. She felt a familiar, aching grief wash over her. Tears welled in her eyes as she knelt down beside her daughter, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.
"No, sweetheart," Clara whimpered, her voice cracking with emotion. "You know your dad died years ago. He's in heaven."
But Lily refused to look away. She stepped closer to the water, her eyes wide with absolute certainty.
"Mom, look at his tattoo!" she insisted, pointing again.
Clara forced herself to look. The man was stepping onto the dry sand now, the water glistening on his tanned skin. As he wiped his face, Clara’s gaze locked onto his torso. There, etched in dark ink across his abdomen, was a detailed portrait of Clara’s own face. It was a completely unique tattoo, custom-designed for Mark on their first anniversary.
"That's impossible," Clara whispered, her breath caught in her throat.
The stranger looked up, his hazel eyes meeting hers. He opened his arms, and without another thought, Clara and Lily ran through the wet sand toward him.
