The rain-slicked asphalt of the training ground glistened under the gloomy daylight, reflecting the cold, grey sky. Claire Vance stood in the center of the yard, the rough fabric of her olive green prison jumpsuit chafing against her skin. Behind her, a line of police officers stood in silence, their expressions a mix of curiosity and dread. Claire’s hands were free, but the weight of her false accusation hung heavily on her shoulders. She had been framed by the very men who now stood opposite her.

The Ultimate Betrayal

Officer Thomas held the leather leashes of four massive German Shepherds. These weren't just any K9s; they were Buster, Shadow, Rex, and Bella—the elite dogs Claire had raised and trained from infancy. Thomas had spent the morning riling them up, turning them into weapons of pure aggression.

"Let's see how tough you are now, Claire," Thomas sneered, his grip loosening on the leashes. "Pull them back, now!" he yelled mockingly to the wind as he released them.

The four beasts charged across the wet asphalt, their jaws snapping, barking furiously. Any ordinary person would have screamed and run, but Claire stood perfectly still. She closed her eyes for a split second, feeling the damp wind on her face, and then opened them, locking eyes with the lead dog, Shadow.

As the dogs closed the distance, Claire lowered her hand and whispered a single word: "Beta."

In an instant, the transformation was nothing short of miraculous. The furious barking ceased. Shadow slid on the wet ground, stopping inches from Claire, his tail giving a tentative wag. Rex and Buster immediately flanked her sides, baring their teeth outward at Thomas, while Bella stood directly in front of Claire, her chest puffed out in a protective shield.

Thomas stumbled backward, pointing a trembling finger.

"They're... they're guarding her?" he stammered.

Chief Harris stepped forward, his face pale.

"How did she do that?" he asked in disbelief.

Claire raised her hand commandingly, and the dogs sat in perfect, silent unison. She walked past Thomas, her gaze cold and unwavering.

"They were never yours to control," she said.
