The Ruined Gown

The morning of my wedding was supposed to be a dream, but standing in my mother-in-law's sprawling kitchen, it felt like a nightmare. The white marble countertops and dark wood cabinets looked cold and unforgiving. I was adjusting my veil when Margaret stepped in, closing the door behind her with a soft, ominous click. She looked stunning in her navy designer gown, but her eyes were filled with venom. Before I could say a word, she lunged forward and grabbed the delicate satin of my wedding dress, ripping the bodice down the middle with a horrific tearing sound.

"You don't belong in this family," Margaret said, her voice dripping with ice as I collapsed to the floor, clutching the ruined fabric.

"Please don't do this, you ripped my dress," I sobbed, tears blurring my vision.

She smirked down at me, entirely unbothered by my pain. "And no one is going to believe you," she whispered triumphantly.

Just then, the door swung open and David, my fiancé, ran into the room. He looked handsome in his charcoal gray suit, but his face fell instantly when he saw me crying on the cold floor. "Mom, what happened here?" he asked, his voice filled with panic.

Margaret immediately gasped, putting her hands over her mouth. "Oh, David, thank goodness you're here! She tripped over her heels and fell into the counter! I tried to catch her, but the dress just tore!"

I didn't argue. Instead, I quietly tapped my phone screen, activating the smart home system. On the fireplace TV, the security footage from the hidden kitchen camera began to play, showing Margaret's vicious attack in high-definition. "I didn't need you to believe me," I said softly, looking up at her pale face.

David stared at the screen, his jaw dropping. "What have you done?" he gasped, looking at his mother in absolute horror. I looked up at her and whispered, "The cameras."
