The rain beat heavily against the windows of the retro diner. Inside, the warm glow of neon lights reflected off the green vinyl booths and wood-paneled walls. Sergeant Emily sat quietly, nursing a cup of black coffee. At her feet, her German Shepherd partner, Max, rested his head on his paws. He was a decorated military K9, his tactical harness bearing the marks of active service. They were both tired, recovering from a long journey back from their deployment.

The peaceful atmosphere shattered when the diner's front door swung open. Sheriff Robert stepped inside. He was a large man who ruled the small county with an iron fist, his dark blue uniform pristine and his attitude dripping with unearned authority. The locals in the diner immediately looked down, avoiding his gaze. Robert, however, was looking for a target. His eyes locked onto the military dog resting under Emily’s booth.

With heavy, arrogant steps, Robert walked over and stood directly over the table. Without invitation, he reached down and roughly patted Max's head, gripping the dog’s ears with unnecessary force. Max let out a low, vibrating growl, his muscles tensing.

"You're in my town now," Robert sneered, looking down at Emily with a cold, mocking smile. "Keep that mutt in line, or I will."

Emily didn't hesitate. She rose from the booth in a fluid, disciplined motion, stepping directly into the sheriff's personal space. She was shorter than him, but her presence was commanding. She stared straight into his hostile eyes, her voice ringing with absolute authority.

"Touch my K9 again, Sheriff, and your badge won't survive the footage," Emily warned, her voice steady and lethal.

She tapped the small, blinking tactical camera secured to her chest. Robert’s smug expression faltered, replaced by a sudden, tense silence.
