The afternoon sun beat down on the bustling downtown streets, but Clara felt entirely frozen. She stood on the sidewalk outside "Vance & Victoria Bridal," her eyes locked on the magnificent display window. Inside, mounted on a velvet mannequin, was a breathtaking white lace wedding gown. It featured intricate floral embroidery, a delicate sweetheart neckline, and a sweeping train of pure silk organza.

With trembling fingers, Clara reached out and touched the cool glass. A tear slipped down her cheek, leaving a clean trail through the dust on her face.

"What a beautiful dress," she whispered in awe.

It wasn't just any dress. It was her soul, woven into fabric. It was the masterpiece she had spent six months designing before her life was ripped away from her.

Suddenly, the heavy glass door of the boutique swung open with a sharp click. Victoria stepped out, looking immaculate in a sophisticated dark blue designer dress. Her arms were crossed, her posture radiating hostility as she glared at Clara’s oversized, worn sweater and messy reddish-brown hair.

"Please leave," Victoria said, her voice dripping with ice. "You are making our customers uncomfortable."

Clara turned to her sister, her eyes pleading.

"I just want to try on that dress, Victoria. Just once," she begged softly.

Victoria paused, then threw her head back and laughed mockingly. She gestured toward the wealthy women sipping champagne inside the shop, who were already staring and snickering through the glass.

"You?! Try on that dress?!" Victoria sneered, stepping closer. "Look at yourself, Clara. You're a beggar. You don't belong on this street, let alone in my boutique."
