They Took Her Father's Legacy and Laughed, Until She Picked Up the Rifle
The heat of the Nevada desert rose in shimmering waves off the cracked earth, but Nicole felt entirely cold. Dressed in a simple navy blue windbreaker, her auburn hair tied back, she stood before the wooden table at the outdoor shooting range. This place had once been her sanctuary, the heart of her late father’s elite security empire. Now, it was occupied by the men who had stolen everything from her.
Dan, her former brother-in-law and the man who had helped orchestrate her exile, stood across from her. Dressed in brown tactical camo, a cap, and dark sunglasses, he looked at her with a mixture of amusement and disdain.

The Challenge in the Desert
"Seven shots. Show us you belong on this firing line, Nicole," Dan sneered, his voice carrying over the dusty range.
The spectators, a group of wealthy new clients Dan was trying to impress, gathered around to watch. They expected a show, a quick humiliation of a woman who had dared to challenge the new management.
Nicole didn't hesitate. She opened the rustic wooden case on the table and lifted the heavy, bolt-action rifle. It was her father’s custom rifle, a weapon she knew better than her own reflection.
"Careful, that rifle kicks harder than it looks," Dan warned, a smug grin plastering his face. "Right in the center, if you can find it."
Nicole didn't answer. She braced her shoulder, aligned her cheek against the stock, and took a slow, deep breath. The world around her faded until there was only the crosshairs and the distant metal targets. She squeezed the trigger.
The deafening roar of the rifle shattered the desert silence. Downrange, the spinning metal target clanged violently, spinning under the perfect impact.
Dan’s grin vanished. His jaw dropped slightly beneath his sunglasses.
"Did she hit both?" he muttered to his assistant, stunned.
Nicole calmly cycled the bolt, the hot brass casing ejecting into the dust. She looked directly at Dan.
"You gave me seven shots," she said calmly.
Before he could reply, she raised the rifle again, firing with mechanical, terrifying precision.
