The Screams in the Mansion

The high-end mansion of the Sterling family had always felt more like a gilded cage than a home to Mary. Standing in the grand lobby, beneath the towering curved oak staircase, she felt smaller than ever. The air was thick with tension, the warm mansion lighting casting long, dramatic shadows across the marble floor. Mary’s face burned where her mother-in-law, Martha, had just scratched her during a bitter confrontation.

Before Mary could even process the physical pain, her husband James stormed through the main entrance. Wearing a sharp charcoal suit, his face was twisted in anger. He didn't look at the red mark on his wife's cheek; instead, he looked at his mother, who was pretending to tremble. James turned on Mary, his voice booming through the empty halls.

"How dare you speak to my mother like that in my house?"

Mary gasped, tears streaming down her face as she clutched her pregnant belly. She could hardly believe the betrayal. "Your mother humiliated me. And you heard every word," she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and absolute heartbreak.

From the middle of the curved staircase, Martha looked down at her with a haughty, victorious sneer. She adjusted her pearls, her voice dripping with venom.

"Know your place. You never belonged to this family."

But the cruel triumph was short-lived. Just as James stepped forward to demand Mary apologize, the massive oak front doors swung open with a deafening crash. A powerful, older man stepped into the lobby, flanked by several imposing security guards. It was Robert, Mary's estranged father—a billionaire tycoon whose influence reached the highest levels of the state.

Robert took one look at his daughter’s bruised face and the tears in her eyes. His gaze turned to pure, icy fury. He walked past James as if he were invisible and stood protectively in front of Mary.

"My daughter, pack your things,"

Robert commanded, his voice echoing like thunder. He then turned slowly to face a stunned James, his eyes locking onto the younger man.

"And you will answer for every tear."
