The Confrontation in the Lobby

The grand lobby of the Sterling mansion had always felt cold, but tonight, the atmosphere was downright freezing. Evelyn stood clutching her pregnant belly, her lavender silk dress offering little comfort against the emotional chill in the room. A thin trail of blood trickled from a fresh scratch on her temple, the result of a shattered glass thrown in anger just moments before.

Her husband, Charles, stood before her in his dark tailored suit, his face contorted with unearned rage. Instead of comforting his injured wife, he pointed an accusing finger. "How dare you speak to my mother like that in my house?" he shouted, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

She looked up toward the sweeping mahogany staircase, where her mother-in-law, Beatrice, stood like a queen surveying her kingdom. Beatrice looked down at Evelyn with a cruel sneer.
"Know your place. You never belonged to this family,"
she hissed, enjoying every second of Evelyn's torment.

Charles stepped closer, ready to banish his wife into the cold night. But before he could lay a hand on her, the heavy wooden double doors of the mansion swung open with a dramatic crash. The wind howled inside, carrying with it an imposing figure.

It was Edward, a powerful and legendary figure, flanked by armed, uniformed security guards. He stepped into the warm mansion lighting, his presence immediately dominating the room. He took in the scene—his daughter's tears, the blood on her face, and the terrified look on Charles's face. Edward walked directly to Evelyn, ignoring the host completely.

"My daughter, pack your things,"
he commanded softly. Then, turning his icy glare toward Charles, he delivered a promise that made the younger man's blood run cold:
"And you will answer for every tear."
