The Poisoned Feast

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the manicured lawns of the Sterling estate. It was supposed to be a day of celebration—the tenth wedding anniversary of Richard Sterling, a prominent real estate mogul, and his elegant wife, Victoria. Guests dressed in high-fashion attire chatted amiably, sipping champagne around a lavishly decorated banquet table. Victoria, stunning in a pastel yellow dress, smiled warmly as she personally served a special, seasoned dish she claimed to have prepared herself. Richard raised his fork, deeply touched by her gesture, ready to take the first bite.

Suddenly, the tranquil atmosphere was shattered. A young, disheveled boy with curly brown hair burst through the manicured hedges. His clothes were torn, and his face was streaked with dirt and sweat. Running straight toward the formal table, he pointed a trembling finger at Victoria and screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Don't eat that! She put something in the food!"

A collective gasp rippled through the high-society crowd. Silence fell like a heavy curtain. Victoria’s smile instantly vanished, replaced by a mask of cold indignation. Standing up furiously, she glared at the child and barked an order to the estate guards.

"Security, get that kid out of here! He’s trespassing and clearly disturbed!"

As the guards stepped forward, Richard hesitated. He looked at his trusted bodyguard, Derek, who stood silently by his side. Derek had been quiet all afternoon, his eyes darting around the property. Instead of moving to remove the boy, Derek leaned down and whispered quietly to his employer.

"Sir, the boy is telling the truth. Do not touch the food."

Richard’s blood ran cold. Before he could react, the boy, Liam, took another step forward, pointing directly at Victoria’s luxury designer purse resting on the edge of the table.

"There's a photo in her purse of the man she did this for!"

Victoria lunged forward, her elegant composure completely disintegrating into raw, animalistic panic.

"No! Don't open it! Keep away from my things!"

But Richard was faster. Sweeping his arm across the table, he snatched the designer bag, his heart pounding in his chest as he prepared to unlock a dark, hidden reality.
