My Fiancé and Best Friend Tried to Steal My Home, But I Knew Their Secret
The warm, amber glow of the string lights draped across Maya’s living room usually brought a sense of comfort, but tonight, the atmosphere was suffocating. The soft acoustic music playing in the background felt like a mockery of the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Maya stood in the center of the hardwood floor, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. Her dark hair fell over her shoulders, framing a face pale with shock, anger, and a grief so profound it threatened to consume her.
Around her stood the three people she had trusted with her life: her fiancé Lucas, her best friend Chloe, and Lucas’s brother Ethan. Just moments ago, they had been laughing, raising their glasses to a future that was built entirely on a foundation of lies. But the laughter had died the second Maya walked into the room holding a thick manila folder.

"You think I didn't know?"
Maya’s voice was barely a whisper, yet it silenced the room instantly.
The reaction was immediate. Ethan, standing near the kitchen counter, let out a sharp, stunned gasp. His reddish hair caught the light as his head snapped toward her, his wide eyes filled with a sudden, paralyzing panic. He looked at Lucas, then back at Maya, his mouth hanging slightly open.
Beside him, Chloe’s face drained of all color. The blonde woman’s eyes welled with tears as a horrified expression took over her delicate features. She took a step back, her hand flying to her mouth to stifle a sob.
But it was Lucas who looked the most guilty. The glass of whiskey in his hand rattled against his ring as his fingers began to tremble violently. He stared at Maya in sheer disbelief, his lips parting but no words coming out.
"Maya, honey, what is that?"
Lucas finally managed to stammer, his voice cracking as he gestured weakly to the folder in her hand. Maya looked at him, the man she was supposed to marry in three months, and felt a coldness wash over her. "It’s the end of your little game," she said.
”"It’s the end of your little game," she said.
