The Confrontation in the Mansion

The grand lobby of the Sterling mansion had always felt cold, but today, the air was downright freezing. Jessica stood near the sweeping mahogany staircase, her hand instinctively resting on her six-month pregnant belly. Her mother-in-law, Catherine, stood just a few steps above her, looking down with a sneer that made Jessica's blood run cold.

"You think because you are carrying a child, you suddenly have a right to be here?" Catherine hissed, her voice dripping with venom. "You are nothing but a common schoolteacher. You married my son for his money, and I will make sure he sees you for the leech you are."

Jessica tried to step back, but Catherine grabbed her arm roughly, her sharp manicured nails digging into Jessica's skin and scratching her cheek. Jessica cried out in pain, tears springing to her eyes. Just as she pulled away, the heavy front doors opened, and Michael walked in, wearing his charcoal grey suit. Seeing his mother and crying wife, he marched over. But instead of comforting Jessica, he glared at her.

"How dare you speak to my mother like that in my house?" Michael yelled, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

Jessica wept hysterically, the sting on her cheek matching the deep betrayal in her heart. "Your mother humiliated me. And you heard every word," she whimpered, hoping for a shred of decency from her husband. But Michael remained unmoved, standing firmly by his mother's side. Catherine sneered from the staircase, saying, "Know your place. You never belonged to this family."

Before Michael could utter another word, the massive entrance doors swung open again. This time, it wasn't a servant or a guest. An imposing older man, flanked by four towering security guards, stepped into the lobby. It was Richard, Jessica's estranged father—a billionaire who had spent months trying to find his daughter. He took one look at Jessica's tear-stained face and the scratch on her cheek, and his eyes turned to ice. He walked past Michael, pulled Jessica into a protective embrace, and said, "My daughter, pack your things." He then glared at a shocked Michael, warning, "And you will answer for every tear."
