A Wedding Day Nightmare

The grand banquet hall of the estate was filled with the soft glow of crystal chandeliers, the clinking of champagne flutes, and the laughter of two hundred wealthy guests. Amanda, wearing a stunning silk gown that hugged her curls, sat at the head table. She looked at her new husband, Matthew, believing this was the start of their happily ever after. But the illusion shattered in a single, painful second.

As Amanda leaned slightly to adjust her dress, the back leg of her heavy wooden chair snapped. With a sharp gasp, she crashed to the polished marble floor. The impact bruised her knee, but the emotional pain that followed was far worse. Instead of rushing to her aid, Matthew burst into laughter. He looked down at his new bride, chuckling softly.

"Wow, too slow," Matthew joked, gesturing to the guests.

The entire room erupted into amusement, following the groom's lead. Amanda felt hot tears stinging her eyes as she struggled to stand in her heavy gown. Then, her mother-in-law, Elizabeth, stepped forward. Clad in an elegant emerald dress and holding a half-empty wine glass, she sneered openly at Amanda.

"What a shame," Elizabeth said, her voice dripping with venom. "She doesn't even know how to sit properly. I told you she lacked refinement, Matthew."

Amanda looked at her husband, hoping for a shred of defense, but Matthew only smirked. At that moment, a cold clarity washed over Amanda. The humiliation transformed into a burning resolve. Slowly, she wiped her tears and slid the giant diamond ring off her finger, dropping it onto the table with a sharp click.

Before Matthew could react, the grand double doors of the banquet hall swung open. A tall man in a pinstripe suit, holding a leather briefcase, walked purposefully toward the head table. Amanda looked up, a calm smile replacing her tears.

"My lawyer is already here," Amanda whispered.
