The Homeless Boy on the Atlanta Street Had My Deceased Son's Face
A Ghost on Peachtree Street
The afternoon sun filtered through the green, leafy canopy of downtown Atlanta, casting dancing shadows across the bustling sidewalk. Sophia adjusted her camel-colored overcoat, her hand warmly clasping that of her eight-year-old son, Julian. He was chattering happily about his school's science project, his grey cardigan fluttering slightly in the autumn breeze. To anyone passing by, they were the picture of a perfect, peaceful family. But beneath Sophia's calm exterior lay a quiet, lingering grief—the ghost of a twin boy she had lost at birth.
Suddenly, Julian stopped dead in his tracks near a rusted green lamppost. His grip on Sophia’s hand tightened, his small fingers digging into her palm. "Mom! Mom, look!" he gasped, pointing eagerly toward a narrow alleyway. "Why does he look so much like me?"

Sophia turned her head, expecting to see a child with a passing resemblance. Instead, her breath caught in her throat. Sitting on a crumpled cardboard box was a young boy, shivering in a thin, tattered denim jacket. He had the exact same chestnut hair, the same splash of freckles across his nose, and the same striking green eyes as Julian. He was a mirror image of her son.
As they approached, the homeless boy looked up, his eyes widening in mutual shock. In his trembling, dirt-smudged hands, he held an open, rusted iron locket. Sophia’s eyes locked onto the faded vintage photograph inside. It showed twin babies, and beneath the glass, a tiny script read: "To our eyes, I see they are twins."
The handwriting was unmistakably that of Sophia's late mother-in-law. Sophia felt the ground tilt beneath her feet. She looked down in utter disbelief, her voice a fragile whisper.
"No, that's impossible..."
Julian looked up at her, his face a mask of confusion. "Mom, what does this mean?" Sophia could only gasp in terror, her eyes wide with shock as a dark, impossible truth began to unfurl in her mind.
