I Found My Forgotten Husband on the Streets and Begged Him to Save Me
The Encounter in the Rain
The freezing autumn rain pelted the dark Seattle pavement, washing away the grit of the city but doing nothing to cool the fire of desperation burning in Amelia Vance's chest. Dressed in a tailored charcoal grey pantsuit that cost more than most people earned in a year, she completely ignored the wet mud soaking through her knees. She was kneeling on the damp concrete curb, her eyes locked onto the disheveled, trembling man sitting before her.
Julian looked like a ghost. His once-handsome face was hidden behind a thick, dirty beard, and his greasy shoulder-length hair clung to his forehead. A faint, jagged scar crossed the bridge of his nose—the only visible remnant of the horrific accident five years ago that had stolen him from her. To the rest of the world, he was just another forgotten soul on the streets, but to Amelia, he was her entire world.

With trembling hands, Amelia held out an emerald green velvet box. Inside, a flawless diamond wedding band caught the flickering neon light of the city. "Marry me," she pleaded, her voice cracking under the weight of five years of unshed tears.
Julian stared at the sparkling jewel, his chest heaving. He looked utterly bewildered, his eyes darting from the ring to the elegant woman kneeling before him.
"Why me?"he rasped, his voice raw and unused.
"I don't even know who I am."
A single tear slipped past Amelia’s dark sunglasses, tracing a clean path through the rain on her cheek.
"Please, Julian,"she whispered, stepping closer despite the wall of security guards standing tall behind her.
"Only you can help me. Only you can save us."
As Julian’s grimy, calloused fingers slowly reached out to touch the cold metal of the ring, a dark limousine splashed violently through a puddle nearby. The doors flew open, and a harsh, booming voice shattered the moment. "Amelia, stop!" it commanded. It was her Uncle Arthur, flanked by his own armed security. Julian’s eyes widened in sudden, agonizing recognition as he whispered,
"This name... Vance..."before screaming in absolute terror.
