The Perfect Trap at Dusk

The evening air at the Grandview Estate was crisp, carrying the faint scent of expensive champagne and jasmine. Arthur adjusted the cuffs of his tailored midnight black tuxedo, taking a moment to appreciate the breathtaking view of the city skyline. At thirty-five, he had finally reached the pinnacle of his career. Tonight was supposed to be a celebration of his partnership, a milestone he had sacrificed his entire twenties to achieve.

Beside him stood Clara, his beautiful fiancée, radiant in a charcoal grey silk gown that caught the fading light of dusk. She smiled warmly, her hand resting gently on his arm. To his left was Sienna, their chief operating officer, looking striking in an olive green gown. The atmosphere was filled with the low hum of laughter and classical music playing from the speakers. It was, by all accounts, a perfect night.

Then, the music abruptly stopped. The silence that followed was heavy and sudden. Arthur turned, confused, only to find Sienna stepping forward, her expression completely devoid of its usual warmth. Behind her, three of the firm's senior partners fell into a silent, imposing line. Their eyes were cold, locking onto Arthur with unmistakable hostility.

"Arthur, your little game is over," Sienna said, her voice sharp enough to cut through the cool evening breeze.

Arthur laughed nervously, looking at Clara for some sign of a joke. But Clara slowly pulled her hand away from his arm, her face twisting into a mask of deep disappointment and sorrow. She took a step back, aligning herself with Sienna and the partners.

Before Arthur could speak, Sienna threw a thick manila folder onto the dark tiled floor. It splayed open, revealing bank statements and digital authorization logs. "We found the missing three million dollars from the charity foundation," Sienna announced loudly, attracting the attention of the remaining guests. "It was transferred directly to an offshore account registered in your name, Arthur. The digital key used was yours."
