An Executive Promised to Marry the Janitor if He Fixed Her Impossible Engine
The Desperate Gamble
The laboratory on the seventy-fourth floor of the Apex Dynamics tower was suffocatingly quiet. Outside, the sprawling city skyline twinkled like a field of fallen stars, but inside, the atmosphere was thick with failure. On a pristine steel table sat the Hyperion Core, a revolutionary quantum engine that was supposed to secure the company’s future. Instead, it was a lifeless mass of metal and wires.
Sophia, the brilliant and fiercely elegant executive of Apex, paced the room. Her black designer suit was immaculate, but her eyes betrayed a growing panic. The board of directors was meeting in less than an hour, and twelve of the most highly paid engineers in the country stood in a silent semi-circle, their heads bowed in defeat. Leading them was Dr. Victor Vance, who kept insisting the prototype was simply ahead of its time.

Suddenly, the squeak of rubber soles broke the tension. Andrew, the quiet janitor in dark blue denim workwear, pushed his mop bucket into the sterile room. He had spent two years sweeping these floors, invisible to the brilliant minds around him. But as he looked at the engine, he saw the fatal flaw in the wiring instantly.
"I can fix it," Andrew said, his voice calm and steady.
The engineers gasped, and Dr. Vance let out a mocking sneer.
"He's just a janitor, Sophia. He probably thinks a quantum core is a fancy toaster,"Vance laughed.
Sophia, however, did not laugh. She was desperate enough to try anything. She stepped closer to Andrew, her eyes narrowing as she looked at his confident posture. She decided to play along with what she assumed was a ridiculous joke.
"If you fix it when twelve engineers couldn't, I'll marry you,"she declared, her voice dripping with skeptical amusement.
Andrew didn't hesitate. He looked directly into her eyes. "I accept," he said.
”"I accept," he said.
