A Sudden Interruption

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the manicured lawns of the Sterling estate. It was supposed to be a day of absolute celebration. Lawrence, a prominent philanthropist, was hosting a high-society garden reception to celebrate his engagement to Diana, an elegant woman who had captured his heart. The air was filled with the gentle clinking of crystal glasses and the polite laughter of wealthy guests. Diana stood near the head table, looking radiant in a cream-colored designer dress, while Lawrence, dressed in a sharp navy blazer, beamed with pride.

But the tranquil atmosphere was shattered in an instant. From the edge of the gardens, a young boy came sprinting toward the formal tables. He was disheveled, his brown hair messy and his clothes covered in dust. Guests gasped as he ran past them, pointing a trembling finger directly at the head table. "Don't eat that! She put something in the food!" he shouted, his voice cracking with desperation.

The garden fell into a shocked silence. Diana’s face hardened, her elegant facade cracking for a brief second. She stood up furiously, her eyes flashing with anger.

"Security, get that kid out of here!"
she commanded, her voice sharp and cold.

Lawrence’s loyal bodyguard, Gregory, stepped forward to intercept the boy. But as Gregory reached out, the young boy, Carter, grabbed his arm. He whispered something hurried and desperate. Gregory froze, his expression turning grave. He slowly walked back to Lawrence’s side, leaning in close.

"Sir, the boy is telling the truth,"
Gregory whispered.

Panic rippled through Diana. Before she could speak, Carter pointed directly at her cream clutch purse resting on the table. "There's a photo in her purse of the man she did this for!" he yelled. Diana screamed in panic,

"No! Don't open it!"
but Lawrence was already reaching for the clutch, his heart sinking as he prepared to uncover a devastating truth.
