The Betrayal in the Lobby

The marble floors of the grand Plaza Hotel gleamed under the warm amber chandeliers, but for Sarah, the world was turning dark and cold. Clutching her pregnant belly, she looked at her husband, Nathan, hoping to find a shred of mercy in his eyes. Instead, she found only ice. With a brutal kick, Nathan sent her leather suitcase skidding across the polished floor.

"I'm sick of this!" he shouted, his voice echoing off the high, brass-accented ceilings. "I'm sick of your constant whining, Sarah. You don't fit into my world anymore."

Sarah gripped the cold, polished granite reception counter to keep from collapsing. The pain in her heart was far worse than the physical exhaustion of her high-risk pregnancy. She had given up everything to support his career, and now he was discarding her like trash.

"Nathan, please!" she begged, tears spilling over her cheeks. "Think of our baby. We can talk about this. Don't do this to us."

Nathan didn't even flinch. He adjusted the cuffs of his expensive charcoal grey suit, looking at her with absolute disgust. He waved his hand dismissively toward his personal security guards.

"Get her out of here," he ordered coldly. "And make sure she doesn't come back."

The guards stepped forward, but before they could lay a hand on Sarah, the gold-trimmed elevator doors slid open. Out stepped Helena Vance, the formidable matriarch of the city's most powerful family. Clad in a dark navy silk dress and a string of perfect pearls, she carried herself with an air of absolute authority.

As Helena walked past, her eyes caught the glint of a silver charm bracelet on Sarah’s trembling wrist. Helena froze. Her gaze locked onto the silver locket charm. Stepping forward with fierce determination, she stood directly between Sarah and the guards, glaring down Nathan.

"Don't you dare touch her," Helena warned, her voice cutting through the lobby like a blade.
