He Stole an Old Veteran's Pension, Unaware of the Powerful Man in the Convoy
The Confrontation on the Sidewalk
The autumn sun beat down on the bustling city sidewalk, but for Louis, the warmth did little to ease the chill in his bones. Wearing his faded green military jacket and a worn camo cap, the weathered veteran stood outside the regional pension office, trying to keep his composure. He had spent thirty years serving his country, surviving battles that had claimed the lives of his closest friends. Yet, standing on this concrete street, he felt more vulnerable than he ever had in the trenches.
In front of him stood Raymond, a smug, clean-shaven bureaucrat wearing an immaculate tan suit. Raymond held a clipboard close to his chest like a shield of bureaucratic indifference. Without warning, Raymond sneered and shoved Louis hard, slamming the older man’s back against the cold brick wall of the office building. The sudden, violent impact knocked Louis’s most prized possession from his hand—a solid gold challenge coin, awarded to him decades ago for valor.

The coin clinked against the concrete, rolling toward the curb. Raymond didn't even glance at it. Instead, he leaned in close, his voice dripping with malice.
"Your pension has disappeared, old man. Someone like you no longer needs documents,"he whispered, tapping his clipboard with a pen.
Despite the humiliation, Louis’s eyes remained steady. A lifetime of discipline kept his anger in check. He looked past Raymond’s shoulder, focusing on the busy road. A faint smile touched the corners of his lips.
"Son, you'd better look toward the road,"Louis said softly, his voice carrying the quiet authority of a seasoned soldier.
Raymond scoffed, but the sound was instantly drowned out by the deep, synchronized roar of powerful engines. Three massive, polished black SUVs with dark tinted windows rounded the corner and screeched to a halt at the curb, effectively blocking traffic. The rear door of the lead vehicle swung open, and a polished black dress shoe stepped onto the pavement, right beside the rolling gold coin. Out stepped General Sterling, a highly decorated officer in a dark blue dress uniform. He stared at Raymond with cold fury and commanded,
"Pick it up."
