The rain fell in relentless sheets, blurring the glowing neon signs of the city into streaks of watercolor. Amelia adjusted her dark sunglasses, her heart hammering against her ribs. Underneath her sharp navy blazer, she was trembling. Today was her twenty-fifth birthday, the deadline set by her late father’s cruel will.
