Previously: When Admiral Caroline walked down the aisle, she expected a peaceful wedding. Instead, her estranged father appeared with a dark secret that forced her to choose between duty and family.

An Admiral's Command

Caroline stood frozen between the two forces. On one side was the system she had sworn her life to defend, represented by the armed men invading her wedding. On the other was her father, a man who had sacrificed his reputation and his relationship with his daughter to protect her from the shadows. She looked down at the heavy envelope in her hand, then up at Vance’s smug expression. In that split second, she knew what she had to do.

With absolute authority, Caroline stepped directly in front of her father, shielding him from the operatives' line of fire. She turned to her honor guard, her voice ringing out with the commanding power of a true leader.

"Guard, secure the perimeter! No unauthorized personnel are to advance!" she commanded.

Without hesitation, the honor guard pivoted, their rifles snapping into defensive positions, blocking Vance’s men. Vance’s smile vanished, replaced by sudden panic. "Admiral, you are harboring a traitor! This is career suicide!" he hissed.

"This is a military wedding, Deputy Director, and as the presiding Admiral, I declare this sacred ground under my direct command," Caroline replied coldly. "Unless you have a warrant signed directly by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, you will order your men to stand down. If you touch a single hair on this veteran's head, I will personally see you court-martialed for treason."

Vance stared at her, realizing he had no legal authority to engage an active-duty Admiral and her guard without starting a massive public scandal. Recognizing defeat, he slowly signaled his men to lower their weapons and retreat into the shadows outside.

As the doors closed, Caroline turned back to Edward. Tears finally spilled over her lashes as she reached out, taking his weathered hand in hers. The decades of pain and misunderstanding dissolved in the quiet of the cathedral. She looked toward the altar where her fiancé stood waiting, a proud smile on his face. Caroline smiled through her tears, squeezing her father's hand.

"I think it's time you walked me down the aisle, Dad," she whispered.

True honor is not found in medals or rank, but in the silent sacrifices we make to protect the ones we love.
