Previously: When Admiral Lawrence spotted a young woman in a utility jacket on his naval base, a single tense exchange forced a twenty-year-old family secret to finally float to the surface.

The Traitor in the Shadows

The quiet reverence of the reunion was violently shattered. Before Lawrence could step forward to embrace his long-lost daughter, the heavy boots of the base security detail clattered against the stone. Led by Chief Miller, four armed guards rushed forward, weapons drawn.

"Admiral, step back!" Miller commanded. "This woman is an unregistered intruder. We caught her downloading classified intelligence from the secure server room!"

Lawrence stood frozen as the guards seized Jessica, pulling her arms behind her back to snap heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists. She didn't struggle. Instead, she kept her hazel eyes locked on her father's face, her expression filled with a haunting intensity.

"Is this true, Jessica?" Lawrence asked, his voice shaking. "What are you doing here?"
"I came for the truth, Dad," she whispered, the word 'Dad' cutting straight to his soul. "The ferry accident twenty years ago wasn't an accident. It was a cover-up. And the man who orchestrated it is inside your own high command."

Determined to get answers, Lawrence followed the guards to the brig, demanding absolute privacy to interrogate the prisoner. Inside the cold, sterile interrogation room, Jessica revealed a devastating truth. She had been raised by Vice Admiral Vance, Lawrence’s closest friend and mentor, who had told her that Lawrence had abandoned her and orchestrated the ferry disaster to hide his own illegal operations.

Just as Lawrence was processing the sheer scale of the betrayal, the heavy steel door of the interrogation room swung open. Standing in the doorway, flanked by two armed men who did not wear standard naval uniforms, was Vice Admiral Vance. A cold, menacing smile played on his lips.

"I'll take custody of the prisoner now, Lawrence," Vance said smoothly. "And if you try to stand in my way, you'll find yourself sharing a cell with her for treason."
