Previously: When Admiral George Vance saluted a young woman in a plain windbreaker, his officers were stunned—but the truth behind her presence would shatter everything he believed about his family.

The Secret in the Files

Without a word of explanation to his bewildered staff, Admiral Vance turned and gestured for Ashley to follow him. They walked briskly through the echoing corridors of the administration building, finally entering his private, heavily guarded office. As soon as the heavy oak door clicked shut, George turned to his daughter, his professional composure instantly vanishing.

"What is the meaning of this, Ashley?" George demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and fear. "Do you have any idea what kind of danger you are in by stepping onto this base?"

Ashley did not flinch. Instead, she reached into her windbreaker and pulled out a sleek, encrypted tablet, placing it firmly on his mahogany desk.

"I am not in danger, Dad. But you are," Ashley said quietly, using the personal term for the first time in five years. "I never went to Ohio to teach. I was recruited by Naval Intelligence the week after Leo's funeral."

George stared at her, his mind struggling to process the revelation. The daughter he thought he had lost to civilian life was actually an elite undercover operative.

"For five years, I have been tracking the black-market supply ring that sabotaged Leo's submarine," Ashley continued, tapping the screen to reveal a series of classified documents. "It wasn't an accident. The pressure valves were deliberately replaced with cheap, counterfeit parts."

George’s face drained of color as he looked at the evidence. But the final blow was yet to come. Ashley swiped to the last page, revealing the digital signature of the high-ranking officer who had authorized the fraudulent safety inspections.

It was Captain Richard Miller—George's closest friend, his former academy roommate, and his current second-in-command. Before George could even speak, the office door slowly opened. Captain Miller stepped inside, a cold, ruthless smile on his face, holding a silenced pistol pointed directly at the Admiral's chest.
