Sarah calmly tucked her credentials back into her pocket and looked at Vance, whose hand had completely slipped from her arm. He stood there, frozen, his mouth slightly open as the gravity of his mistake began to settle in.

The Colonel's face hardened as he looked at Vance. The investigation that followed was swift. Sarah’s unannounced audit revealed a long history of Vance using his rank to bully subordinates and civilians alike. Within forty-eight hours, Vance was stripped of his command and reassigned to a remote, low-level desk job, his dreams of promotion permanently shattered.
