Derek opened his mouth to apologize, but Rachel raised her hand, silencing him instantly. She opened his file and picked up a pen. "Your behavior today proved you are unfit to lead soldiers. I am initiating an official inquiry into your conduct, suspending your command privileges, and recommending a formal demotion."

Derek’s eyes welled with tears as he realized his promising career was effectively over. He nodded slowly, the painful lesson sinking deep into his soul.
