Nathan's smug grin remained plastered on his face as he stepped back, expecting Emily to gather her things and leave in shame. Instead, she simply opened her folder and began reviewing her notes, completely ignoring his presence. The lieutenant's face flushed with anger at being dismissed so easily, but before he could escalate his bullying, the heavy double doors of the briefing room slid open with a metallic hiss.

Instantly, the room erupted into the sound of shifting chairs and snapping boots. Every pilot stood at attention as Base Commander Vance marched into the room, his chest decorated with medals. But to everyone's surprise, he didn't walk to the podium. Instead, he stood by the door and saluted sharply.

"At ease, gentlemen," Commander Vance announced, his booming voice echoing off the walls. "Before we begin the tactical layout for Operation Nightfall, I have the honor of introducing our newly appointed Chief Evaluator and Mission Commander."

Nathan puffed out his chest, fully expecting the Commander to call his name. After all, his uncle had promised him a recommendation. But the Commander's eyes swept past Nathan and landed directly on Emily.

"She has spent the last five years executing classified operations under deep cover," Vance continued. "Her records are legendary, and she has absolute authority over this entire squadron. Any pilot who fails to meet her standards will be grounded immediately. Please welcome Major Emily Vance."

The silence in the room was absolute. Nathan's jaw dropped, the color completely draining from his face as he stared at the woman he had just publicly humiliated. The very same "sweetie" he had told to fetch coffee was now the absolute ruler of his military destiny.
