An Arrogant Pilot Mocked Me Before a Mission, Unaware I Was His New Commander
Previously: When arrogant Lieutenant Ryan mocked pilot Ashley before a high-stakes briefing, he thought she was an outsider. He had no idea she was actually his newly appointed commanding officer.
A Daring Rescue in the Skies
The tactical radio channel exploded with panicked static.
"Mayday! Mayday! This is Raptor Two! My controls are completely unresponsive! I'm in a flat spin!"Ryan’s voice was filled with sheer terror. The control tower was screaming at him to eject, but the G-forces of the spin had pinned him to his seat, preventing him from reaching the ejection handle.
Ashley knew she had seconds to act. Ignoring the warnings of the automated flight system, she flipped her fighter jet upside down and dove straight down into the canyon after him. "Raptor Two, listen to my voice," she commanded over the radio, her tone steady and unshakable. "I am coming wingtip-to-wingtip. You are going to force a manual hydraulic override on my count."

Using her incredible piloting skills, Ashley brought her jet dangerously close to Ryan’s spinning aircraft. By positioning her plane directly above his, she used the aerodynamic wake of her own jet to temporarily break his spin and stabilize his wings. It was a legendary, suicidal maneuver that defied gravity itself.
"Now, Ryan! Pull the manual override!" she roared.
With the spin stabilized for a fleeting second, Ryan managed to grab the emergency lever and pull it. His engines roared back to life, and both jets pulled out of the dive just hundreds of feet above the canyon floor, screaming back up into the safety of the blue sky.
When they finally landed back at the base, Ryan climbed out of his cockpit, his hands shaking violently. He walked straight over to Ashley, who was calmly removing her helmet. In front of the entire squadron, the arrogant young lieutenant fell to one knee, looking up at her with tearful eyes.
"You saved my life, Major," he whispered. "I am so incredibly sorry for how I treated you."
Ashley helped him to his feet, her expression firm but fair. "In this squadron, Ryan, we don't look down on anyone. We fly together, or we die together. Welcome to the team." From that day forward, Ryan became the most dedicated pilot in the squadron, and Ashley earned the absolute loyalty of every soul on the base.
