Just as Thomas reached for his handcuffs, determined to make a public arrest, the overhead public address system crackled to life. A loud, authoritative voice cut through the tense atmosphere of the concrete terminal, silencing the murmuring crowd.

The announcement echoed off the high ceilings, repeating once more before fading into static. The silence that followed was absolute. Thomas froze, his hand hovering over his utility belt. The smug, self-righteous grin on his face instantly withered, replaced by a pale mask of shock and dawning dread. He slowly looked from the speaker back to Marcus, his eyes wide as the gravity of his mistake began to sink in.

The Escalation of Pride

Marcus adjusted his cover, his voice calm and deadly quiet. "Are we done here, Officer?" he asked, his gaze piercing through the guard's fading confidence. But Thomas, driven by a desperate need to save face in front of the dozens of onlookers recording the scene, refused to back down. He gripped Marcus’s arm tighter, his knuckles turning white.

"No, we aren't done," Thomas hissed, his voice trembling with a mixture of panic and stubborn pride. "This is a trick. Anyone could have called that in. Show me your military identification right now, or you're going down for resisting a security officer."

Before Marcus could respond, the crowd parted. Two heavily armed military police officers marched into the circle, their boots clicking in perfect unison against the concrete floor.
