The emergency room was a flurry of activity as nurses hooked Lauren up to the fetal monitors. Dr. Stevens stayed by her side, monitoring the baby’s heartbeat. Thankfully, the rhythmic thumping of the monitor confirmed the baby was safe, though Lauren was still shaking from the sheer terror of the assault. Outside the room, loud voices erupted. The door burst open, and David, Lauren's estranged husband, rushed in, looking frantic and angry.

But David wasn't there to comfort Lauren. He marched straight to Dr. Stevens, demanding to know why Tiffany was being detained by hospital security. "What are you doing to her?" David frowned, looking from the doctor to the tablet. "What are you talking about? Tiffany is three months along. We have the ultrasound pictures."

Dr. Stevens tapped the screen and turned it toward David. "Those ultrasound pictures were downloaded from an online forum. Tiffany has never been pregnant. In fact, she underwent a total hysterectomy three years ago at this very hospital. She is physically incapable of carrying a child, and she has been faking this entire pregnancy to keep you from returning to your wife." The room fell dead silent as the gravity of the medical fraud settled over David’s face.
