A Brave Soldier Defied Her Corrupt Commander, but the General's Discovery Changed Everything
Previously: When Specialist Jessica Vance stood at attention with a severe black eye, she knew speaking out could end her career—but keeping silent would destroy her soul.
A Web of Betrayal
General Miller’s jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing as he processed her words. The silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating. He took a step back, his hands clasped behind his back as he stared at the young specialist. He knew the politics of the base, and he knew that a soldier didn't get a bruise like that from a simple training accident.
"I am asking now, Specialist Vance," General Miller said, his tone commanding. "And as your commanding officer, I expect an honest answer. Who violated their oath and laid hands on you?"
Jessica took a deep, shuddering breath. She knew the risks. The man she was about to accuse was not just any officer; Major Robert Sterling was General Miller's hand-picked protégé, and rumor had it, he was engaged to the General's daughter. To accuse him was to throw a grenade into the General's personal and professional life.

"It was Major Robert Sterling, sir," Jessica said, the words hanging in the air like a physical weight. "I discovered he was falsifying logistics reports to reroute military funds. When I confronted him, he assaulted me."
Before the General could respond, the heavy double doors of the hall swung open with a loud bang. Major Sterling marched in, his posture perfect and his expression a mask of righteous indignation. He saluted the General, completely ignoring Jessica’s presence.
"General Miller, I apologize for the intrusion," Sterling said, his voice smooth and calculated. "But I must report a serious breach of security. Specialist Vance has stolen classified digital files and is currently under investigation for espionage. When I attempted to detain her, she resisted violently. I had to use physical force to secure the stolen property."
Jessica’s heart plummeted. Sterling had anticipated her move and had fabricated a narrative to paint her as a traitor. She looked at General Miller, desperate for a sign of belief, but the General’s face remained an unreadable mask of stone.
