Previously: After discovering a hidden dashcam that implicated his police officer brother-in-law in his sister's fatal crash, James walks straight into the precinct to demand justice.

The Interrogation Room Trap

Before the onlookers could intervene, Mark released James's collar with a rough shove. He grabbed James by the arm and dragged him into a nearby interrogation room, slamming the heavy metal door shut. The lock clicked with a terrifying finality. Inside the stark, windowless room, the atmosphere grew even colder.

Mark walked around the metal table, his hand resting casually on his holster. "You think you're a hero, James?" he sneered. "You think you can just walk in here and accuse a decorated officer of murder?"

James pulled a USB drive from his pocket, holding it up like a shield. "I don't have to accuse you. The dashcam shows your cruiser ramming Sarah's car off the road. I've already sent copies to the State Police and the local news. If I don't check in with my lawyer in ten minutes, they press play."

For a second, panic flickered in Mark’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a chilling, wicked grin. He slowly pulled out his personal phone and slid it across the metal table. On the screen was a live video feed of a dark room. Sitting on a small cot, clutching her favorite stuffed animal, was James's five-year-old niece, Lily.

"She's at a safe house," Mark whispered, his voice dripping with malice. "And if I don't send a confirmation code to my associate in the next five minutes, well... accidents run in the family, James."

James felt the air leave his lungs. His knees buckled as he stared at the screen, looking at the innocent little girl who had already lost her mother. The betrayal was complete. Mark wasn't just a corrupt cop; he was a monster willing to use his own daughter as leverage.

"She's your daughter!" James choked out, his voice cracking with desperation. "How could you do this?"

Mark smiled coldly. "I do what I must to survive. Now, you're going to write a confession stating you forged that video, or you'll never see her again. The clock is ticking."
