A Rich Businessman Bought a Pastry—Then the Old Vendor Showed Him a Photo
Previously: When wealthy businessman Thomas stopped by a humble pastry cart, he expected nothing more than a quick breakfast. Instead, a single bite and an old photograph shattered everything he believed.
The Confrontation in the Mist
Before Thomas could process the shocking revelation, the screech of tires echoed through the narrow alley. A sleek black luxury sedan pulled up to the curb, and a stern, older man in an expensive overcoat stepped out. It was Arthur Vance, the powerful patriarch of the Vance empire and the man who had raised Thomas.
Arthur’s eyes locked onto Clara, and his face twisted with immediate fury. He marched over, shoving himself between Thomas and the old woman.

"Get away from my son, Clara!" Arthur hissed. "I warned you thirty years ago to never come near our family again."
Thomas stepped back, completely bewildered.
"Father? You know her?" Thomas demanded, his voice shaking. "What is going on here? She says she’s my mother!"
Arthur turned to Thomas, his expression softening into a mask of paternal concern.
"She is a liar and a grifter, Thomas," Arthur said smoothly. "Thirty years ago, she sold you to us. She didn’t want the burden of a child, so she traded you for a million dollars. I have the signed agreement in my safe. She’s only here now because she ran out of money and wants to blackmail us."
Clara gasped, clutching her chest.
"That’s a lie!" Clara cried, her voice cracking with despair. "I never took a single penny! You threatened to destroy my life and have me thrown in prison if I didn't sign those adoption papers! You told me my baby would starve!"
Sarah, standing beside Thomas, sneered. "Thomas, look at her. She’s a street vendor. Of course she’s lying. Your father has given you everything. Don't let this woman ruin your reputation."
Arthur signaled his two burly bodyguards. "Get this trash and her cart out of here. If she comes near my son again, have her arrested."
The bodyguards stepped forward, roughly grabbing Clara's wooden cart and shoving it to the ground. The beautiful, freshly baked pastries scattered into the dirty, wet street. Clara wept, helpless and defeated, as she watched her life's work destroyed. But Thomas stood frozen, his eyes locked on the tattered photograph.
