Previously: When Chloe came home early, she expected to catch her husband cheating. Instead, she found her sister in her bed—and a medical secret that shattered her entire family.

The Hidden Paperwork

My eyes fell on a thick manila folder resting on Mark's side of the bed. Printed clearly on the tab was my sister's name. With trembling fingers, I opened it, expecting to find love letters or secret weekend getaways. Instead, my eyes scanned medical charts, blood compatibility tests, and a letter from a private organ transplant clinic. The document thanked my husband for volunteering as a living kidney donor for Jessica.

But the true horror lay in the financial statement attached to the back. A deposit of fifty thousand dollars had been paid to secure the private surgery date. We didn't have that kind of money. Then, Jessica's phone—which she had left on the nightstand in her panic—buzzed with a text from Mark.

"I transferred the equity from Chloe's inherited house," the text read. "She doesn't suspect a thing. Once she signs the final release, the surgery is a go. We are almost there, Jess."

My husband had stolen the equity of the home my late grandmother had left me. He had conspired with my sister behind my back, leaving me entirely in the dark. Blinded by a cocktail of grief, confusion, and rage, I drove straight to Jessica's apartment. I pushed the unlocked door open, ready to tear the place apart.

Instead, I walked into a tense, quiet scene. Mark was sitting on the sofa, holding Jessica’s hand. Next to them sat a stern man in a grey suit, holding a stack of legal documents. As I walked in, Mark stood up, his face pale. The lawyer adjusted his glasses and looked at me coldly.

"Mrs. Vance," the lawyer said, holding out a pen. "Your husband has signed over his share, but we need your signature to release the remaining funds from the property equity. If you do not sign tonight, your sister will lose her spot on the donor list."

Jessica looked at me, tears streaming down her pale face, begging me to save her life. I stood frozen, holding the pen, staring at the documents.
