Previously: When a wealthy executive suffocates in his office lobby, a humble cleaning lady saves him with a secret family remedy, sparking a confrontation that uncovers a forty-year-old corporate conspiracy.

The Shadow of the Past

As the suffocating darkness receded, Richard lay on the floor, his mouth smeared with the yellow paste. He looked up at Martha, who was kneeling beside him, weeping hysterically and cradling her bruised, bitten hand. Looking into her amber eyes, a sudden, shocking realization washed over him. They were the exact same eyes he saw in his own mirror every morning. Before he could speak, his adoptive father, Arthur Harrison, stormed into the lobby, flanked by his personal attorneys.

Arthur, the powerful patriarch who had raised Richard in a life of cold, calculated luxury, did not look at his son with relief. Instead, his eyes locked onto Martha, and his face turned a pale, furious ash-white. He pointed a trembling finger at her, his voice booming through the high-ceilinged lobby.

"Get that woman out of here immediately!" Arthur roared. "She is a trespasser and a fraud! Security, throw her out!"

Richard, still weak but fueled by a sudden surge of adrenaline, stood up and stepped between his adoptive father and the trembling cleaning lady. "She just saved my life, Arthur," Richard said, his voice raw. "And she knew exactly how to do it. Who is she?"

Arthur sneered, his eyes cold and calculating. "She is a ghost from a past you were never supposed to know, Richard. If you knew the truth about why she abandoned you in that orphanage, you would never look at her face again. Ask her about the warehouse fire forty years ago. Ask her who really started the blaze that killed your biological father!"

Martha shook her head in sheer terror, her tears soaking her headscarf. "No, Arthur, please! Don't do this to him!" she begged, shrinking back against her cleaning cart as the corporate lawyers closed in.
