Previously: When 69-year-old Madeline entered the state shooting championship, a smug young competitor tried to humiliate her. But one look at her registration form sent shockwaves through the entire arena.

A Ghost from the Past

A heavy silence fell over the shooting range as Alistair stepped out from behind the counter, the registration paper clutching tightly in his hand. Levi, trying desperately to recover his shattered composure, marched over to the official, his face flushed with embarrassment.

"What's the big deal, Alistair?" Levi demanded, crossing his arms. "So the old lady had one lucky round. That doesn't mean she belongs in the championship."

Alistair looked at Levi with a mixture of pity and disbelief. "Lucky?" the official repeated, his voice echoing in the quiet hall. "Levi, you are holding the state cup, but you clearly don't know the history of the sport you play. Look at this name. This is Madeline Vance."

A collective gasp rippled through the older spectators in the room. Thirty years ago, Madeline Vance was a household name—a legendary three-time Olympic gold medalist who had revolutionized competitive shooting. She had vanished from the public eye overnight following a devastating car accident that had claimed the life of her husband and coach, Arthur Vance. She had never been seen on a competitive range since.

Levi’s eyes widened slightly, but his arrogance quickly masked his fear. He couldn't let a sixty-nine-year-old woman humiliate him in front of his sponsors. He stepped closer to Madeline, his expression turning ugly.

"I don't care who you used to be," Levi spat, his voice low and threatening. "That was thirty years ago. Your husband is gone, and your prime is ancient history. If you think you can just walk in here and take my spotlight, you're dreaming. I challenge you to a direct, sudden-death shootout. Right now. Let's see if the legend is real, or if you're just a fragile ghost."

Alistair stepped between them, his expression grim. "Levi, stop. You don't know what you're asking for. The very trophy you are defending today was donated and named in honor of Arthur Vance. Madeline isn't just here to shoot. She's here to claim her husband's legacy."

Madeline looked at the trophy gleaming in the display case, her eyes filling with a mixture of painful memories and fierce determination. She turned to Levi, her grip tightening on her pistol.

"I accept," Madeline said quietly. "Let's shoot."

Madeline said quietly. "Let's shoot."
