The Commander Ordered Me to Stand Down, But My Men’s Lives Were at Stake
Previously: When Master-at-Arms Emily Vance discovered a dark conspiracy on the naval base, she never expected her own commanding officer, Robert, to be the one pulling the strings.
The Trap is Sprung
The three black SUVs skidded to a halt on the tarmac, forming a tight barricade that cut off any hope of the transport plane taking off. The doors flew open, and a dozen heavily armed mercenaries in unmarked tactical gear stepped out. They immediately raised their automatic rifles, training their red-laser sights not only on Emily, but also on the kneeling Commander. The situation had escalated from a military arrest to a deadly standoff in a matter of seconds.
Emily kept her weapon raised, her eyes darting between the mercenaries and Robert. The truth began to dawn on her as she saw the sheer terror in her commander's eyes. Robert wasn't the mastermind of this conspiracy; he was merely a pawn. He looked up at Emily, tears of regret spilling over his weathered cheeks.

"They have my daughter, Emily," Robert whispered, his voice cracking under the weight of his confession. "They kidnapped her three days ago. They told me if I didn't give them the flight paths, they would send her back to me in a box. I tried to protect you all, I swear. I thought I could buy enough time to get her back!"
The mercenary leader, a cold-eyed operative with a scar running down his cheek, stepped forward from the line of vehicles. He looked at Emily with a chilling, indifferent smile. "A touching story," the leader sneered, raising his rifle. "But plans change. The Commander has served his purpose, and you, Sergeant, have become an inconvenient witness. Drop your weapon, or we blow the transport plane sky-high right now."
Emily's heart froze. The transport plane behind her was fully fueled and packed with her squad mates. A single explosive round would incinerate everyone she cared about. She was outmanned, outgunned, and running out of time.
