Previously: When Lieutenant Megan Vance discovered her entire unit was sent into a deadly ambush, she confronted the one man she trusted—only to uncover a devastating conspiracy.

Commander Sterling slowly rose from the wet concrete, ignoring the mud staining his pristine uniform. He didn't reach for his own weapon. Instead, he stepped closer, his voice a frantic whisper. "Megan, you have to listen to me. I didn't authorize that mission. The orders came from the Pentagon, bypassed my desk entirely. Someone wanted your squad eliminated."

A Trap in the Shadows

Before Megan could process his words, the roar of approaching engines cut through the rain. Two dark, unmarked SUVs sped onto the airfield, their headlights blinding them. "They're here to clean up the loose ends," Edward hissed, shoving a set of keys into her hand. "My truck is behind Hangar 4. Run, Megan. I'll buy you time."

"I'm not leaving you to face them alone," Megan protested, her tactical instincts screaming at her to fight.

"If you die, the truth dies with you!" Edward shouted, pushing her toward the shadow of the parked jet just as heavily armed men in black tactical gear began to exit the vehicles. Megan had no choice. She slipped into the darkness, hearing the sharp exchange of words behind her as she fled toward the hangar.

She managed to escape the base in Edward's truck, driving blindly into the stormy night. Safe inside a rented room on the outskirts of the city, she turned on the television. The news anchor's voice chilled her to the bone. Her own face flashed on the screen, accompanied by a headline that made her stomach turn: Lieutenant Megan Vance wanted for high treason and the assassination of Commander Edward Sterling.

They had killed him. And now, they were framing her for his murder. Just as panic began to set in, the door handle of her safehouse slowly turned. Megan raised her weapon, bracing for the mercenaries. But as the door swung open, the figure stepping inside made her drop her guard in absolute disbelief. It was Chief Petty Officer Marcus Brody—the medic from her unit who she had watched get dragged away during the ambush, alive but severely wounded.
