Previously: When an eight-year-old boy in a faded t-shirt approached Charles in a luxury hotel lobby, Charles expected a scam. Instead, a tattered photo and a single whispered nickname changed everything he knew about his past.

The Search for the Truth

As Charles stared at the faded photograph, his mind raced through a storm of memories. Emily had vanished ten years ago without a trace, leaving him heartbroken and empty. To hear her private nickname—a secret only the two of them shared—from the lips of this child shook him to his core.

Two hotel security guards rushed forward to grab the boy, but Charles immediately intervened, stepping between them. "Leave him alone," Charles commanded, his voice ringing with authority. "He is with me."

Evelyn was furious. "Charles, what is the meaning of this? Who is Emily, and why are you letting this street kid ruin our evening?" she demanded, her voice tight with jealousy and embarrassment. But Charles ignored her. He knelt down to Leo's eye level, his heart pounding.

"Where is your mother, Leo?" Charles asked gently.
"She's in the hospital," Leo cried. "She's very sick, and she told me to find you. She said you were the only one who could save us."

Without a second thought, Charles stood up and grabbed Leo's hand, turning toward the exit. Evelyn grabbed his arm, her eyes flashing with anger. "If you walk out that door with him, Charles, our wedding is off!" she threatened. Charles looked at her, then down at the boy who held the key to his past. He gently shook off her hand and walked out into the rainy night.

Charles and Leo arrived at the municipal hospital, rushing through the sterile, white corridors to Room 304. Through the glass, Charles saw her. Emily looked frail and pale, hooked up to several monitors, but her eyes filled with tears the moment she saw him walk in.

"Charles... you found him," Emily whispered, her voice barely audible.

But before Charles could demand answers, the door swung open. To his absolute shock, his mother, Eleanor, walked in, followed closely by a triumphant-looking Evelyn. Eleanor's expression was cold and calculated as she stared at the scene.

"Get away from her, Charles," Eleanor said sharply. "I paid this woman to disappear ten years ago, and I won't let her scheme her way back into our family."
