Previously: When single father Mark gifted his son Leo a custom-built gaming console, he expected tears of joy. Instead, a hidden compartment inside the machine exposed a shocking family secret.

A Secret in the Silicon

Mark’s smile faltered slightly as he took the console back from Leo. He knew his craftsmanship was flawless; there shouldn't have been any loose parts inside. Fetching a precision screwdriver from his kitchen drawer, he carefully removed the back plate of the custom housing. As the plastic cover clicked open, Mark’s breath caught in his throat. Wedged securely into a hollow, non-functional compartment of the secondhand outer shell was a thick, vacuum-sealed plastic packet. It was completely separate from his custom circuitry.

With mounting curiosity, Mark carefully sliced open the plastic barrier. Inside lay a yellowed, handwritten letter and a stack of pristine legal documents bearing official state seals. As his eyes scanned the elegant handwriting, the world seemed to tilt on its axis. The letter was written by his late grandfather, dated just weeks before his sudden passing. It was addressed directly to Mark’s father, who had died years ago in poverty, falsely accused of stealing the family’s estate by Mark’s ruthless uncle, Richard Vance.

"My dearest son," the letter read. "If you are reading this, it means Richard has succeeded in framing you. But he will never find the true deeds to the commercial empire. I have hidden them where he would never look—inside my prized vintage electronics. They belong to you and your boy."

Mark stood frozen, clutching the original, multi-million dollar deeds to the Vance family estate. The very casing he had bought for ten dollars at Uncle Richard's chaotic estate sale held the key to his family's stolen legacy. Suddenly, a violent, demanding knock shook the front door. Mark opened it to find a stern lawyer in a tailored suit, backed by a massive security guard. The lawyer offered a cold, predatory smile.

"Mark, we know you bought that specific vintage shell," the lawyer said quietly. "My client, Richard Vance, wants it back. We will pay you ten thousand dollars for it right now. If you refuse, we will make your life a living hell."
