Previously: When Sarah's four-year-old daughter spotted a shadow outside their living room, she never expected to face a ghost from her past—or a web of family lies.

A Voice from the Grave

With trembling hands, Sarah unlocked the sliding door. Mark slipped inside, smelling of damp earth and fear. He pulled Sarah into a desperate embrace, his body shaking. Sarah sobbed against his chest, unable to comprehend the reality of the moment. "Mark? How are you here? They said you drowned," she cried, clutching his worn jacket.

"I had to fake it, Sarah," Mark whispered urgently, his eyes darting toward the street. "Julian forced my hand. He discovered the inheritance from my grandfather and threatened to destroy us if I didn't sign it over and disappear. I've been hiding, waiting for a chance to expose him."

Before Sarah could process the shocking accusation against Mark's brother—the very man who had supported her through her grief—the sound of tires crunching on the gravel driveway cut through the night. Headlights swept across the living room walls.

"He followed me," Mark panicked. "If Julian finds me here, he'll finish what he started. You have to hide me!" Mark scrambled behind the heavy wooden bookshelf in the corner, retreating into the shadows.

A loud, demanding knock echoed through the house. Sarah wiped her tears, took a deep breath, and opened the front door. Julian stood there, holding a thick leather portfolio. His expression was tense, his eyes scanning the room suspiciously.

"Sarah, I saw a suspicious vehicle nearby," Julian said, stepping inside without permission. "I think a dangerous intruder might be lurking around. You need to be careful."

"We're fine, Julian. No one is here," Sarah said, trying to keep her voice steady. But Julian didn't look convinced. He opened his portfolio, pulling out legal documents. He claimed that Mark was a criminal who had faked his death to escape debts, and had returned to steal Sarah's remaining assets. Caught between the husband she loved and the brother-in-law who had saved her, Sarah felt the world spinning. Suddenly, a floorboard creaked near the bookshelf. Julian spun around, pulling a silver revolver from his pocket.
