Previously: When a young stranger appeared at Diana’s estate holding a newborn baby, she never expected the handwritten letter he carried would force her to confront her deepest regrets.

A Dangerous Confrontation

Before Diana could even begin to process the devastating loss of her daughter, the sharp crunch of gravel echoed from the driveway. She peered through the window, her blood turning to ice. A sleek, black SUV had pulled up, and stepping out of it was Arthur. His handsome face was twisted into a cold, calculated mask. He had tracked Caleb to the estate.

Panic seized Diana. She turned to Caleb, her voice an urgent whisper, instructing him to take baby Lily and hide in the deep, stone cellar beneath the kitchen. "Do not make a sound, no matter what," she pleaded. As Caleb slipped away into the shadows, the heavy brass knocker on the front door rattled violently. Diana took a deep breath, smoothing her clothes to mask her terror, and opened the door.

Arthur stood on the threshold, his eyes scanning the interior of the house with predatory intensity.

"Diana," Arthur said, his tone dripping with artificial warmth. "I am looking for Clara. And I believe a young man carrying something that belongs to me was seen heading toward your property."

Diana stood her ground, her voice steady despite the adrenaline surging through her veins.

"I have no idea what you are talking about, Arthur. Clara hasn't spoken to me in three years, and you are not welcome in my home."

Ignoring her words, Arthur pushed past her into the grand foyer. He began pacing the hallway, his boots clicking sharply against the marble floor. Diana watched him, realizing with sickening clarity the monster she had pushed her daughter to marry. Suddenly, a faint, muffled whimper echoed from the direction of the cellar stairs. Arthur stopped dead in his tracks, a dark, triumphant smirk spreading across his face.

"It seems you are lying to me, Diana," Arthur whispered, turning toward the cellar door. "Let's see what you are hiding down there."
