Previously: When Catherine publicly ripped open Audrey's dress to expose her severe scars at a high-society gala, she expected total humiliation. Instead, she unleashed a secret that would ruin her own family.

The Secret of the Scars

The silence in the ballroom was absolute. You could have heard a pin drop on the marble floor. Thomas’s face drained of color, his arrogant posture instantly collapsing. Catherine’s jaw hung open, her hand still hovering in the air where she had torn Audrey’s blouse. The crowd’s whispers shifted from mockery to stunned confusion.

Admiral Vance turned to face the wealthy elite, his eyes cold as steel.

"I see some of you are amused by these scars,"
the Admiral boomed, his voice carrying the weight of absolute authority.
"Let me tell you where they came from. Three years ago, in a hostile territory, a military medical convoy was ambushed. Captain Audrey Sterling did not run. She stayed behind to perform emergency surgery under active fire. When a mortar landed near the medical tent, she threw her own body over a critically wounded soldier, taking the brunt of the shrapnel to her own back."

He paused, looking directly at Thomas.

"That wounded soldier was my son. Captain Sterling is a decorated war hero, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross. And tonight, she is treated like a common criminal by people who have never sacrificed a single thing for this country."

Julian stepped forward from the crowd, his face pale with regret.

"Audrey... I didn't know,"
he stammered, looking at the woman he had abandoned when she was reported missing in action. But the revelations were not over. Admiral Vance pulled a leather-bound document from his coat.
"And there is one more thing, Thomas,"
the Admiral said.
"The land this very estate sits on was leased to your family sixty years ago by the Sterling estate. The lease expired last month. Captain Sterling is now the sole owner of this property."
