Previously: When Admiral Eleanor Vance arrived at her sister's wedding, her estranged father tried to throw her out. But he didn't realize she now held the highest rank in the room.

The moment the opening notes of the organ resumed, Thomas grabbed Eleanor’s arm and pulled her into the secluded stone vestibule at the side of the altar. The heavy oak door shut, muffling the whispers of the confused guests. Thomas’s eyes burned with a familiar, autocratic rage.

A Hidden Truth Revealed

"How dare you show up here to humiliate me?" Thomas hissed, his voice trembling with anger. "You were stripped of your place in this family ten years ago. You are a disgrace, Eleanor. I ordered you to stay away."

Eleanor looked down at his hand gripping her sleeve, then back up, her gaze icy and completely devoid of fear.

"Take your hand off me, Colonel," Eleanor said, her voice dropping to a dangerous, quiet authority. "You are addressing a superior officer."

Thomas flinched, his fingers slowly releasing her white uniform. He tried to reclaim his dominant posture, scoffing. "Superior officer or not, you are still the girl who brought shame to my name. I saved this family by cutting you loose."

Eleanor smiled, a cold, knowing expression. She opened her small, formal clutch and pulled out a sealed, official envelope. "You didn't save the family, Father. You saved yourself. And this envelope contains the newly declassified flight logs and communication transcripts from the night of the crash."

Thomas’s breath hitched. His eyes locked onto the document. The exact proof that he had fabricated the navigation logs to blame Eleanor for a tactical failure—all to preserve his own path to promotion—was resting in her hands.

"The groom's father is a Senator on the Armed Services Committee, isn't he?" Eleanor asked softly. "I wonder how he would react to learning his new in-law is a fraud."
