A Father Discovers His Late Wife's Missing Ring Inside a Fast Food Burger
Previously: When Steven ordered a simple burger at a local fast-food joint, he never expected to bite into his late wife's stolen heirloom ring, leading to a shocking confrontation with the young cashier.
The Confrontation at the Counter
The restaurant fell dead silent as Steven glared at the two terrified cashiers. Rebecca looked confused and frightened, but Alyssa’s reaction was entirely different. She stared at the gold ring on the counter, her face draining of all color. She began to tremble, her hands clutching the edge of the cash register for support.
"Where did this come from?" Steven demanded, his voice low and dangerous. "This ring was stolen from my bedroom a week ago. Why was it inside my food?"
Rebecca tried to step between Steven and her coworker. "Sir, please, we just serve the food! We don't know anything about jewelry!" she pleaded, her voice shaking. But Steven wasn't looking at Rebecca. He was staring intently at Alyssa. Under the harsh fluorescent lights, without the distraction of her fast-food visor, her features suddenly clicked into place. The wide eyes, the slight curve of her jaw—she looked exactly like Marcus, Sarah’s estranged brother.

Marcus was a desperate gambler who had been banned from Steven’s home years ago after stealing from them. Steven realized with a sickening jolt that this young girl was Marcus’s daughter, his late wife’s niece, whom he hadn't seen since she was a child.
"Alyssa," Steven whispered, his anger instantly turning into cold dread. "You're Marcus's daughter. Did your father break into my house? Did he make you do this?"
Alyssa burst into tears, covering her face with her hands. "I'm so sorry, Steven," she sobbed, confirming his worst fears. "He didn't steal it to sell it. He found out where I was working and forced me to put it in your burger tonight. He knew you'd come looking for answers. He has a message for you." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, crumpled note written in Marcus's messy handwriting, warning Steven that Sarah's death wasn't an accident, and that he held the key to the truth.
