Previously: When Hannah was framed for a crime she didn't commit, her late father's final gift became her only hope—and a target for the prison's most dangerous inmates.

Officer Miller took a slow step forward, his hand resting on the heavy nightstick at his belt. Hannah felt the icy grip of panic. She was trapped in a locked cell with a corrupt guard who would do anything to protect the people who had framed her.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Hannah lied, her voice shaking as she slipped the tiny micro-SD card into her palm.
"Don't play dumb with me," Miller sneered, lunging forward to grab her arm. "Julian Vance pays very well to keep his secrets buried, and you aren't leaving this prison alive with that data."

The Unlikely Rescue

But just as Miller's fingers clamped around her wrist, the heavy metal door was thrown open with a violent crash.

"Step away from the inmate, Miller! Hands where I can see them!" a booming voice commanded.

Warden Higgins stood in the doorway, flanked by three armed federal agents. Beside them was a woman Hannah recognized instantly—her estranged sister, Sarah, wearing an FBI tactical vest. Miller froze, his face turning pale as the federal agents quickly disarmed and handcuffed him.

Sarah rushed into the cell, pulling Hannah into a fierce embrace.

"We got him, Hannah," Sarah whispered, tears in her eyes. "I've been working undercover with the federal task force to bring down Julian's network. We intercepted Miller's communications. It's over."

The micro-SD card Hannah held was the final piece of the puzzle. Within forty-eight hours, the evidence was processed, Julian Vance was arrested, and Hannah’s conviction was fully overturned. As the heavy iron gates of the penitentiary opened, Hannah stepped out into the bright afternoon sun, a free woman. She looked down at the plain white sneakers on her feet and smiled, knowing her father's love had ultimately paved her path to freedom.

Sometimes, the greatest shields against injustice are the quietest acts of love.
