I Followed a Little Girl into a Dark Alley and Uncovered a Heartbreaking Secret
Previously: After handing a box of food to a polite little girl, Henry followed her into a crumbling building and witnessed a selfless lie that shattered his heart.
A Threat in the Shadows
Unable to remain a silent witness to their suffering, Henry stepped into the dim room. Edith immediately gasped, pulling the children close to her in fear. "Please, don't be afraid," Henry said gently, holding his hands up. "I'm the man who gave Daisy the food. I want to help you." Slowly, the tension in the room began to ease. Edith, her voice thick with emotion, explained their heartbreaking situation. Since her daughter and son-in-law had passed away in a car accident, she had been struggling to raise her four grandchildren alone. After losing her job, they had been evicted, forcing them to seek shelter in this derelict building.
Determined to give them a warm meal, Henry insisted on taking the entire family to a nearby diner. The children ate ravenously, their laughter bringing a fleeting sense of joy to the table. However, the warmth of the moment was abruptly shattered when a man in an expensive dark suit entered the diner. His eyes scanned the room, locking onto Edith and the children with cold hostility. He marched directly to their booth.

Edith’s face drained of color.
"Oh no,"she whispered, her hands shaking.
"It's Richard."Richard, the children’s estranged uncle, sneered as he threw a stack of legal documents onto the table.
"So, this is where you've been hiding the kids, Edith,"he said coldly.
"You have twenty-four hours to hand them over to state custody, or I will have the police arrest you for kidnapping."
Henry stood up, stepping between Richard and the terrified family.
"Who do you think you are?"Henry demanded, his voice low and dangerous. Richard laughed mockingly.
"I am their legal guardian according to their father's old will, and I have no intention of letting this old woman ruin my family's reputation. They are going to an orphanage, and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop me."
