Previously: When Thomas followed a young girl who lied about eating into a dark alley, he never expected to find a crumbling room filled with children—or a secret that would change his life forever.

The Intruders and the Locket

Thomas stepped into the room, his heart heavy with emotion. Evelyn gasped, pulling the children close to her in fear. Thomas quickly held up his hands to show he meant no harm. "Please, don't be afraid," he said softly. "I gave Grace the food. I just wanted to make sure she got home safely."

As he spoke, Thomas's eyes scanned the bleak room. They landed on a small wooden crate in the corner. Resting on it was a dusty silver locket engraved with a wild rose. Thomas gasped; he recognized that locket immediately. He had bought it years ago for Sarah, his late daughter's best friend. He asked Evelyn where it came from, and she revealed that Sarah was Grace's mother. Sarah had passed away months ago, leaving Evelyn and the children with nothing.

Before Thomas could process this shocking connection, the door was kicked open. A man named Richard, a ruthless enforcer for a major development company, stormed in with two guards.

"Time's up, old woman,"
Richard sneered, tossing eviction papers onto the mattress.
"You have one hour to clear out before the demolition crew arrives tomorrow morning."

Thomas stood up, blocking Richard from the terrified family.

"You can't throw these children onto the street,"
Thomas demanded, his voice trembling with rage. Richard laughed, mockingly pointing at Thomas's worn coat.
"Mind your own business. This property belongs to Sterling Enterprises now, and I answer only to the CEO. Get out of my way."
Richard reached out to grab Grace, but Thomas gripped his wrist with iron strength. Thomas looked him dead in the eye. He knew the name of the CEO of Sterling Enterprises very well—because it was his own company.
