They Framed Me and Threw Me in Prison, But My K9 Partners Never Forgot Me
Previously: When former K9 trainer Sarah was framed and sent to prison, the corrupt officers thought they had won—until they unleashed the prison's fiercest dogs on her.
The Standout in the Rain
The fragile peace in the courtyard was shattered by the harsh static of a megaphone. High above on the iron balcony, Warden Vance appeared, his face contorted in a mask of absolute fury. He had spent months trying to break Sarah to ensure she would never reveal the smuggling ring he and James operated. Seeing his ultimate weapon of intimidation turn into her personal shield was a humiliation he could not tolerate.
"Step away from the prisoner!" Vance bellowed through the megaphone, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. "Guards, draw your weapons! If those beasts do not stand down, open fire!"

The heavy clicks of rifles being chambered filled the damp air. A dozen barrels lined up, aiming directly at Sarah and the four loyal K9s. Sarah’s heart hammered violently against her ribs. She didn't fear for her own life, but the thought of these innocent animals dying because of her was unbearable. Shadow let out a low, protective growl, sensing the rising tension, his muscles tensed to spring.
"This is your last chance, Sarah," James sneered, stepping back toward the safety of the armed line. "Tell us where the backup files are, or we paint this courtyard red."
Sarah knew she had to stall. Only two hours ago, her lawyer had successfully delivered the encrypted drive containing all the evidence of Vance's corruption to the regional FBI field office. Federal agents were already en route, but they were still minutes away. If she gave up the location of the files now, Vance would have no reason to keep her alive. If she refused, the guards would shoot. She had to make a move so bold it would paralyze them with hesitation.
Taking a deep breath, Sarah stepped forward, placing herself directly in front of Shadow, shielding the lead dog with her own body. "You want the files, Vance?" she shouted up at the balcony, her voice steady and clear. "Then you'll have to pull the trigger yourself."
